Construction of Our Sanctuary’s Brand New Building Has Begun!
We are thrilled to announce that, after three years of planning and fundraising, we have officially broken ground for the construction of our Arlington sanctuary’s brand new building – Patty’s House! In September, we celebrated with a surprise groundbreaking ceremony at the 75th Birthday Party of Kathy Centala, our Founder. She used her golden litter scoop to turn the first sod, surrounded by dozens of Purrfect Pals donors, volunteers, employees and friends.
This expansion of our facility will allow us to increase our capacity, improve services and provide even better care for the cats in our community and their families.
The second phase of the project, the construction of Patty’s House, a brand new two-story, 4,000 sq ft building, is underway and expected to be completed in February.
Adding this much-needed new building (and later repurposing some of our sanctuary’s existing rooms) will provide us with enough space to care for up to 100 more cats at a time. More importantly, it will increase our ability to take in cats from multiple sources and keep them healthy!
The first phase of our expansion project was completed last year and provided improvements to our existing buildings and property in order to bring them up to code. Renovations included the installation of a new commercial fire alarm system, water and septic system upgrades and safety improvements.
Our new building was designed by Janet Monda of Architectural Werks, Inc and our builder is Corstone Contractors LLC. Both firms have extensive experience with veterinary clinics, animal shelters, human clinics and similar facilities. It was extremely important to us that the firms we hired understand the unique needs of our cats and the staff that cares for them. We needed a building designed to limit the spread of germs and reduce stress in our cats. We are very pleased with all that they have created for us!
The total cost of this two-phase project is $1,376,000. Thanks to very generous donations from our supporters, including lead gifts from donors Bruce and Jeannie Nordstrom, the Estate of Patricia Schultz and grants from the Nysether Family Foundation and the Petco Foundation, our capital campaign has raised over $915,000.
It’s not too late to give a gift in support of the expansion of our sanctuary! We still have several naming opportunities available in the new space, starting at the $500 level.
