Meet Buddy - a Special Purrfect Pals Kitty in Need of our Help
**UPDATE 2/24/2020: BUDDY WAS ADOPTED TODAY!! THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING HIS RECOVERY**
Meet Buddy, a ten-year-old who came to Purrfect Pals because he has several medical issues and needs our help. He is underweight, has FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), the worst case dental disease we've seen in a long time (pus is dripping out of his mouth and there are no words to describe the smell!), is missing part of his tongue, has a degloving injury on his paw and needs abdominal surgery for cryptorchidism. On top of all of that, he has a nasty upper respiratory infection. He couldn't possibly be any sweeter, though, and wouldn't stop making muffins during his exam. What a heartbreaker! We're so glad he was rescued and made his way to Purrfect Pals so we can get him patched up!
Would you like to help save Buddy? Please visit https://purrfectpals.networkforgood.com/projects/70638-buddy to give a gift to Purrfect Pals with just a few clicks. Thank you! fetch

2018 Black Cat Ball Gala Fund-a-Need Video - Purrfect Pals Cat Sanctuary
For three decades, Purrfect Pals has been the place where every cat matters, regardless of age, temperament or physical condition. Our ultimate goal is to place them, but these cats have a loving home in our sanctuary for as long as they need us. Cats do not have to be readily adoptable to be accepted at Purrfect Pals. We provide sanctuary for medically fragile cats in our community rooms and the medical care and special diets they need to be as happy and healthy as possible. Providing this level of care adds up quickly, because cost is never a factor when we develop a treatment plan for each cat.
At any time, there may be as many as 150 short term and long term cats enjoying our hospitality and another 40 in foster care. Our foster numbers more than double during the spring and summer kitten season. That’s a lot of formula, mom and kitten food, litter and supplies needed beyond our normal care requirements.
Purrfect Pals found homes for 352 kittens and 560 adults last year by showcasing these cats at seven offsite adoption locations in addition to the new adoption center at our main facility in Arlington.
For cats like Colonel Mustard, however, WE become their forever home. He had a few chronic medical issues that required special diet and daily medications and he didn’t always think inside the litter box. He never found that adoptive home we wanted for him, so he settled in as a permanent sanctuary resident. The Colonel was a handsome, blue-eyed Siamese adopted from Purrfect Pals in 2004 as a kitten, then returned in 2007 when his family’s circumstances changed.
Colonel Mustard stayed with us for more than 11 years as one of our ambassador cats. He was adored by everyone who met him and a favorite with staff and volunteers. He was a silly boy, a true Feline Ninja Warrior who would jump on your shoulders if you crouched in his vicinity. He mastered back flips to capture more than his fair share of attention.
Earlier this year, Colonel Mustard developed an aggressive cancer at the age of 14. We kept him comfortable for several weeks until he could fight no longer. We said goodbye to him early in September.
No matter how long they stay, Purrfect Pals provides the medical care, food and shelter needed for each and every cat and kitten that finds its way to our door. Beyond daily food and shelter, we are there when cats need surgeries, emergency supportive care, treatment from veterinary specialists and costly medications that other shelters and rescue groups are not equipped to offer.
At our 2018 Black Cat Ball Gala, we asked our guests to raise their bid cards to help us continue our life-saving work. Even if you couldn't attend, you can still help us provide second chances for cats that would likely have had no chance at all anywhere else.
Please consider visiting https://purrfectpals.networkforgood.com/ today to give a gift of your own.
Thank you for investing in Purrfect Pals and helping us provide much-needed second chances for these special kitties... Because Every Cat Matters.

Who is This Cat and What Has She Done with Hermie?
We're already seeing fantastic results with our Cat Pawsitive Pro trainees and are so grateful that we were selected by The Jackson Galaxy Project to participate in the Cat Pawsitive Pro clicker training program (learn more at https://purrfectpals.org/cpp)!
Hermie is eleven years young and came to us in January 2017 when her lifelong owner moved into assisted living. When we started the clicker training program, Hermie was still TERRIFIED of people. There isn't a mean bone in her body, she just loved one person for most of her life and hasn't adjusted to being around strangers.
We've been working on eye contact with Hermie and she has been slowly making progress but not coming out of her bed to interact and still swatting in fear when hands come too close. Yesterday's training sessions were a bit of a roller coaster ride. Check out this video made by Connie, one of the folks working with Hermie, yesterday! fetch

Purrfect Pals Provides Second Chances for Special Cats and Kittens
In 1988, a cat lover named Kathy Centala took a look around her community and didn't like what she found. She saw far too many unwanted cats and kittens whose only options were, in most cases, overcrowded shelters with high euthanasia rates.
Kathy wondered what could be done to improve the odds for these cats. She decided that the only solution was to take away the option of euthanasia completely. Ignoring the critics who told her it wasn't possible, Kathy opened the Northwest's first no kill cat shelter and sanctuary.
Thirty years later, Purrfect Pals still believes that every cat matters, every cat is adoptable and every cat deserves a loving home... especially those with special medical or behavioral needs. We fall in love with these special cats and kittens not in spite of, but because of their differences.

A Purrfect Ending for Romeow!
Guess who was adopted AND is celebrating his first birthday this week?!
Romeow, a ten-month-old kitten, came to Purrfect Pals recently after he escaped from his home and returned eighteen days later with multiple fractures to his pelvis. Because of the severity of his injury, Purrfect Pals paid to send him to visit a veterinary orthopedist. This sweet little guy is on bed rest for a few more weeks to give his pelvis time to heal and will then have surgery. A femoral head ostecotomy helped stabilize his hip joint, which had luxated out of placement (Ouch!). Romeow’s surgery, hospitalization, Xrays, blood work and other treatment weren't inexpensive but we know he is worth it!
Today we are celebrating Romeow's first birthday...which he is spending in a brand new home!

Tippy Survived Against All Odds and is Now Looking for a Forever Home!
Have we mentioned lately how much we appreciate our wonderful supporters? Because of their investment in Purrfect Pals, we are able to take in the cats who need us most: those with special medical and behavioral needs. Several special cats have arrived at our sanctuary in the past week and many have heartbreaking tales.
Tippy came to Purrfect Pals after being surrendered to one of our partner animal shelters. He had facial wounds they thought were consistent with fight/bite wounds from a dog. The shelter contacted us for help when he developed a head tilt.
We soon discovered that, in addition to the head tilt, he had some compromised facial nerve function (for example, he doesn't blink normally on that right eye) so we investigated further with X-rays.
Radiographs of Tippy's skull revealed something we didn't see coming. His head is full of metal shrapnel, most likely from a small caliber gunshot wound. We are running more tests to rule out lead poisoning, etc, but the veterinarians who have worked with him agree that it will be safer to leave the shrapnel where it is rather than attempting to remove it surgically.
Tippy's head tilt is most likely permanent but he seems to be a happy boy who doesn't have any trouble getting around. Our hope is that we can find him a wonderful home with a family who doesn't mind that he's a little bit different. In the meantime, Tippy will be hanging out here in our Arlington sanctuary and adoption center.

Putt Putt Loves to Run on the Cat Wheel!
Team Purrfect Pals, we need YOUR help to find the purrfect home for a ridiculously awesome cat.
Putt Putt is a handsome ten-year-old guy who we swear must be part Bengal. He is EXTREMELY high-energy, impressively athletic and scary smart with a tendency to get bored easily. He rarely stops talking and will carry on entire conversations with people. We added a One Fast Cat wheel to his room today and he immediately hopped on and made running on it look EASY! Seriously, we were really impressed. As you will see in this video (which…true story… has NOT been digitally altered!), he looks a bit like a cross between a kangaroo and a bunny when he runs on it:
PUTT PUTT ON THE CAT WHEEL:
https://www.facebook.com/PurrfectPals/videos/10156269296397841/
Putt Putt loves attention and is a total busy body who just wants to sit in your lap (or on your keyboard if you have an important work deadline coming up). He also really enjoys jumping. On everything. No, seriously… Putt Putt can jump from the floor to the top of a door without any trouble (kangaroo!).
Unfortunately, Putt Putt HATES other cats and cannot live with them. “But, wait,” you’re thinking… “My cats will be different. Everyone loves them! I really want a bengal/savannah cat/kangaroo and am willing to try it.” NOPE! We’ve tried everything already to convince Putt Putt that he can co-exist with other cats and he refuses (because clearly he is far too evolved to stoop to the level of regular old cats). Up here at our sanctuary, he has great potty habits until another cat is introduced and, when that happens, he does not hesitate to start marking to cover up the foul stench of his furry competition.
Putt Putt came to live with us at Purrfect Pals after his owner died and he was surrendered to a local shelter. He was adopted but returned because, despite the efforts of his new family to help him adjust, the home just wasn't the right fit. He had developed some unpleasant litter box issues, likely caused by the other pets in the home and the severe urinary tract infection we discovered he was hiding. His new family will definitely need to watch for signs of UTIs and get him treated promptly if he starts having trouble again. Like many older cats, Putt Putt also has very early kidney disease (which will also need monitoring). At this point he is doing well and doesn't require any special food or treatment. What are we forgetting? Oh! He also has a funny looking spot on his right eye that has been checked by our vet and did not appear to be a concern.
This sweet fella has had a tough break and we're hoping his next home will be his forever one. Because of his outright disdain for other cats, we suspect dogs and small children might also be hard limits for him. We believe his dream home would be a very active one with adults or older kids who are home often and will work hard to tire him out every day with plenty of interactive toys and attention. He will definitely need a home that has been properly catified. We’re envisioning plenty of cat trees, scratching posts, wall shelves, window seats, a cat wheel and maybe even a catio). If you have shelves of fragile knick knacks all over your house and would be sad if he jumped up to admire them, Putt Putt is probably not the kitty you’re looking for.
HOWEVER… Putt Putt would make a great friend and roommate for a super cat-savvy family who thinks this laundry list of quirks sounds like the greatest combination possible. Sound familiar? Putt Putt would love to meet you so please come visit him at our Arlington shelter or email adoption@purrfectpals.org with questions.
